Let’s be real—as women, we’re constantly getting advice thrown at us about how to “fix” our lives, our weight, and honestly, a million other things. It’s overwhelming, right? And half the time, it’s hard to know what actually works and what’s just noise. In a recent YouTube video (watch here), I shared the healthy habits that have genuinely changed my life. I’ve outlined them below. No fluff, no BS—just real, actionable stuff that might help you too.

1. Strength > Skinny πŸ’ͺ🏼

Okay, let’s talk about this one because it’s a biggie. For years, I was obsessed with being “skinny.” I did endless cardio, HIIT workouts, and basically anything to fit into those tiny jeans. But here’s the thing: I was miserable, and my self-worth was way too tied to a number on a tag.

Then, as I got closer to my 40s, something clicked. I realized I didn’t want to be skinny and fragile as I aged—I wanted to be strong. So, I swapped my hours of cardio for lifting heavy weights. And let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer. I feel powerful and confident, and honestly, I'm so satisfied how my body looks now. It’s not about being small—it’s about loving the way you look AND feel.

2. Cutting Back on Alcohol πŸ™…πŸ»‍β™€οΈπŸ·

Alright, I know I’ve talked about this before, but it’s worth repeating. I used to be that person who’d have wine with dinner every night or say yes to drinks at every social event. It wasn’t a problem, but I didn’t realize how much it was affecting me until I started cutting back.

The benefits? Oh, they’re real:

  • Better mood (bye-bye, random irritability)
  • More energy (hello, productivity!)
  • Less belly bloat (yes, please!)

I’m not saying you have to quit entirely—I still enjoy a glass of wine or two now and then—but being more mindful about when and how much you drink can make a huge difference.

3. Setting Goals (and Actually Planning for Them) πŸ‘©πŸ»‍πŸ’» ✍🏼

Life gets busy. Like, really busy. Between work, family, and just keeping up with everything, it’s easy to feel stuck in a rut. That’s where goal-setting comes in —not just the “I want to lose 10 pounds” kind, but the type that genuinely lights you up. Because here’s the thing: setting goals isn’t just about checking boxes or reaching some arbitrary finish line. It’s about giving your life direction, purpose, and a sense of accomplishment that spills over into everything.

When you set a goal—whether it’s running a 5K, mastering a new yoga pose, or just feeling more energized—you’re giving yourself something to strive for. It’s like turning on a flashlight in a dark room. Suddenly, you know where you’re going, and every step you take feels intentional.

The impact? It’s huge. Goals:

  • Give you focus: Instead of feeling scattered or stuck, you have a clear target to work toward.
  • Build confidence: Every small win along the way reminds you of what you’re capable of.
  • Create momentum: Achieving one goal often inspires you to tackle the next.
  • Help you grow: They push you out of your comfort zone and into the version of yourself you’re meant to become.

Setting goals has been transformative for me. It’s not just about the end result—it’s about the person I become in the process—stronger, more resilient, and more in tune with what I really want.

So, what’s one goal that would make you feel proud to achieve? Think about it. Because when you set a goal that matters to you, it’s not just a goal—it’s a game-changer.

4. Walking More 🚢🏻‍♀️

This one sounds so simple, but don’t sleep on the power of a good walk. As someone who spends most of my day at a desk, I’ve made it a point to schedule walks into my day. And let me tell you, the impact to my mental and physical health has been mind-blowing.

Here’s why I love it:

  • It’s my reset button. No matter how chaotic my day is, a walk helps me clear my head. It’s like hitting pause on life for a bit and just breathing.
  • Nature is my therapy. Even if it’s just a quick loop around the block, being outside—feeling the sun, hearing the birds, or even just noticing the way the light hits the trees—makes me feel grounded and connected.
  • It’s a chance to connect. Whether I’m walking solo and listening to a podcast or catching up with a friend, walking gives me space to think, talk, and just be.
  • It’s movement without pressure. Unlike workouts that feel like a chore, walking is gentle, low-impact, and doesn’t leave me feeling drained. It’s movement that gives me energy instead of taking it away.

Even on days when I don’t feel like it, I always feel better afterward.

5. Being Picky About Your People πŸ‘πŸΌ πŸ₯³

This might be the most important habit of all. You’ve probably heard the saying, “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with,” and honestly? It’s true. The energy of the people around you can either lift you up or drag you down, so it’s worth being intentional about who you let into your inner circle.

For me, this meant reevaluating some relationships and investing more in the ones that truly mattered. I started surrounding myself with people who inspire me, challenge me, and support my growth. And it’s made all the difference.

Here’s why your social circle is so important:

  • Energy is contagious: Spend time with positive, motivated people, and their energy will rub off on you. The opposite is also true.
  • Support is everything: When you’re chasing big goals, having people who cheer you on is invaluable.
  • Growth happens together: Being around people who push you to be better helps you grow in ways you never could alone.

This doesn’t mean cutting off everyone who doesn’t fit the mold—it’s about being mindful of who you spend your time and energy on. Surround yourself with people who make you feel like the best version of yourself, and watch how much easier it becomes to thrive.

Xx,

Andrea
